Synopsis

+ Q&A with Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski

As a Hollywood producer, Polish-born Michal Waszynski excelled in creating magical worlds and characters. His biggest creation, however, was his own persona: born into a poor Jewish family he changed his name and religion in order to be accepted into Italian society’s upper echelons. Winner of the 2017 Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary, The Prince and the Dybbuk sheds light on a cinematic enigma while celebrating the thrilling times of the golden era of Hollywood and Rome’s La Dolce Vita.

Winner – Venice Classics Award, Best Documentary on Cinema, Venice Film Festival

“With a tinge of humor, Niewiera and Rosołowski create a portrait of a fascinating life, driven by personal ambitions but also agitated by fears, society’s pressures and demands.”
